Kawachi Insho is a hanko (seal) workshop in Kawachinagano, Osaka. We have made seals for thousands of customers across Japan.
Why we made this site
Getting a hanko in Japan can be confusing. Which seal do you need? How do you write your name? Will the city office accept it? Most hanko shops only explain this in Japanese.
We made this site so foreign residents can order the right seal with confidence, in English, Vietnamese or Chinese.

How we make your seal
- We design your seal from the name you typed, and send you a proof.
- After you approve, the rough shape is cut by machine.
- Our craftsman finishes every seal by hand — the lines, the edges and the final check.
We carve a limited number of seals each day, so every seal gets proper care.

Our materials: black buffalo horn and akane wood
Black buffalo horn is one of the most popular seal materials in Japan, and the most popular at our workshop. It is strong, has a deep black shine, and lasts for many years with normal care.
Akane is a light, fine-grained wood with a warm natural color, and costs less. Both materials are carved and finished the same way. Choose a leather case, a cowhide pouch or the seal on its own.
