What can be carved

Your name, as on your residence card

Sample impression: JOHN / SMITH in alphabet
Alphabet — exactly as on your residence card, in capital letters (for example NGUYEN VAN AN). Carved in our seal-style lettering.
Sample impression: ジョン / スミス in katakana, Koin style
Katakana — only if your katakana name is recorded on your residence record (juminhyo). How to check
Sample impression: 山田 in kanji
Kanji — only if your residence card shows your name in kanji. We carve the Japanese form of the character (for example 劉, not 刘).

You can choose your full name, your surname only, or your given name only. Initials only cannot be registered.

Our registration promise

We make your seal in a size and name format that most city offices accept. If your city office refuses your seal because of the size or name format we chose, we carve a new one for free (once).

This applies when:

  • you typed your name exactly as on your residence card, and
  • for katakana, your katakana name is recorded on your residence record.

Final approval is up to your city office.
